Prerequisites –

This K-Page is for Users that want to provide a spam sample to Support for investigation.

Overview

Definition and difference between SPAM and MALWARE
SPAM: Unsolicited electronic message (email – it could also be email subscriptions you no longer wish to receive)
MALWARE: Harmful or malicious software (file). Commonly known as viruses, most often are detected by your Anti-Virus program.

This page is for sending spam samples only.

For instructions on sending Malware samples to LogDev, see:  EMAIL – Providing a Malware, Virus, or Ransomware Sample

Spam and Malware samples can be sent to LogDev via our unfiltered spam mailbox, [email protected]

However, additional steps may be necessary to get the spam or malware sample out of Outlook and through the mail server without being filtered along the way. This document describes our complete procedure for sending unwanted or potentially dangerous files and emails to LogDev for assessment.

DO NOT SIMPLY FORWARD THE EMAIL TO US

There are two reasons not to do this:

  1. We have software to block evil eMail, so we will not receive it – nor even know that you sent it.
  2. On the off-chance that we get it, your act of forwarding will replace the Internet Headers with yours, making you look like the spammer, and removing the very information we need to help you.

Spam email messages without attachments can be forwarded directly from your email client through the steps below.

Outlook 2007

  1. Notify LogDev that you are sending a spam sample for assessment by sending an email to [email protected] describing the nature of the issue and how you would like LogDev to address the situation
  2. When you receive the auto reply email, copy the ticket number [e.g. T20180812.0123]
  3. In Outlook 2007:
    1. Highlight the spam email you want to forward to LogDev
    2. Click on actions and select forward as attachment
    3. Write the ticket number from above as the subject line
    4. Send to [email protected]

Outlook 2010/2013/2016/2019

  1. Notify LogDev that you are sending a spam sample for assessment by sending an email to [email protected] describing the nature of the issue and how you would like LogDev to address the situation
  2. Watch the 1 min. video below on how to send the spam sample to us:

1. After emailing to support, you’ll receive a confirmation email – Copy the ticket number
2. Create a new email:
3) Address email
To: [email protected]
4) Paste the ticket number into the subject line
5) Drag the spam email into the body of your new email.
6)
Hit send

Once the ticket has been addressed, LogDev will delete the message from the Spam mailbox
